Posted by The FRSC Corps Marshal, Boboye OyeyemiThe Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kogi State yesterday said a total of 16 people killed over the weekend in a road accident along Lokoja-Gegu-Abuja highway have been given a mass burial.
The Kogi State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Ogochukwu Ugboma, said the victims were buried in a mass grave, at Alewu village on the highway, because their identities could not be ascertained asthey were burnt beyond recognition.
He said the police and environmental officials from the Kogi Local Government Area participated in the burial.He said 17 persons were involved in the accident which occurred in the night of August 5 at Alewu village, and that all the occupants of the two vehicles involved, except one man who sustained a minor injury, died in the accident.Ugboma said that the injured victim was later treated at Ideal Hospital, Koton Karfe and had since been discharged.
The Sector Commander said that the two vehicles involved included a Lagos-Kano bound Toyota Hiace passenger bus with registration number Yobe 11A-10 YB and a private Nissan Xtera Jeep with registration number Lagos CV 516 LSD heading to Benin from Abuja.He blamed the drivers of the two vehicles for the accident, stating that both of them left their lanes, which resulted in a head oncollision.
