A High Court sitting in Bukuru, Plateau state, today, September 16, 2016, issued an arrest warrant on the Chairman,
League Management Company (LMC) Shehu Dikko and LMC Chief Operations Officer, Salish Abubakar.
Mr. Dikko and Mr. Abubakar were committed to 14 days imprisonment for contempt by Justice Ishaku Kunda of the High Court.
Recall sequel to the expulsion of Giwa Football Club of Jos from the NPFL, a High Court sitting in Bukuru, Jos, Plateau State, had on August 13,
granted the prayers of the Club seeking It’s reinstatement to the Nigerian Professional Football League.
It would also be recalled that SD Ekara, who is the counsel to Giwa FC, had tabled five prayers before the Court.
The five prayers are; “That the NFF and LMC be restrained from further organizing any matches pending the hearing of the motion on notice.
“Interlocutory injunction compelling the LMC to reschedule all matches Giwa FC did not play as a result of the purported expulsion.
“Injunction recalling all Giwa FC players summarily released and signed by other clubs.
“Restoration of Giwa FC to the league pending the hearing of the motion on notice.
“Such other pronouncements as the court may deem fit”.
However, the LMC failed to comply with the prayers which has also stopped Giwa FC from being reinstated into the league.
In a judgment delivered by vacation judge,
Justice I.I. Kunda, on August 30, the League Management Company and the Nigerian Football Federation were restrained from stopping Giwa Football Club from playing matches in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) pending the determination of the motion on notice.
The Judge also ordered the first and second respondents to reschedule all the matches that Giwa FC failed to play as a result of its purported expulsion from the league.
The LMC was also ordered to immediately return all the players of Giwa FC that were summarily released and signed by other clubs.
Howbeit, Dikko and Abubakar disobeyed the court order that ordered the suspension of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) pending the determination of a case before the court.
It would be recalled that the LMC, had through its chairman, issued a circular reinstating Giwa,
but the club rejected the reinstatement for non – compliance to orders of the court.
Reacting to the development today, the judge,
Justice Ishaku Kunda, in his ruling, committed to Jos Federal Prison on Friday for disobeying the orders of the court.
Giving reasons for his judgment, Justice Kunda held that the duo had brought court of competent jurisdiction to disrepute by blatantly refusing to appear before it when they were ordered to do so.
