IT'S DRAMA TIME! PLAY TITLE: PSYCHO

It took me fifteen minutes to draft out this play. I joke a lot with my imaginations because to me, fiction is not dead. She's very much alive and lives in my head. The drama you're about to read is nothing but a fictional stuff. I hope you enjoy it.

INT - MAMA OBY'S KITCHEN - DAY

MAMA OBY IS SEEN COOKING IN A WOODEN KITCHEN THAT HAS JUST A WINDOW AND A DOOR. SUDDENLY, SHE HEARS VOICES FROM THE BACKGROUND. ANNOYED, SHE WALKS OUT OF THE KITCHEN TO SEE OBY AND MIKE PLAYFULLY EMBRACING EACH OTHER.

MAMA OBY: Bia, this useless boy. (Oby and Mike express shock as they turn towards her). How many times have I warned to stay off my daughter? And you Oby, you are a disgrace to your late father. This useless boy you have refused to let go will kill you the same way his wicked father killed your father.

MIKE: Mama Oby, please stop using the sins of my father against me. What your daughter and I have is stronger than the enmity between our families. Please Ma, give us a chance.

MAMA OBY: (Screams). What! Give you the son of a murderer a chance to come and destroy my family? Did your father give my late husband a chance when he testified against him in front of the Igwe for killing a man he never killed? No man in this community believed my husband when he said he wasn't the one that killed Okoro's father. Okoro's father died a natural death but your father accused my husband of poisoning him and that made this community to kill an innocent man. This useless daughter of mine and I were treated like outcasts in this our own community because of who?
(Shouts) Your father. And here you are talking about giving you a chance in my home. So you want to come and finish what your father started, right? You must be mad.

OBY: Mama you are over reacting. Besides, what happened to Papa happened many years ago when I was just five years old. See mama, I have forgiven Mike's father, the igwe and even the community at large. In fact, Why are you still angry? Haven't the community apologised for the wrong they did to us? Where's your heart mama? Why can't you learn to forgive?

MAMA OBY: (Angry) Ehn! Ehn!! (Laughs angrily) Hey! They have used charm on you o. Oby, you are gone. Mike oya, leave my house.

OBY: Mama, I am sorry. He's going nowhere. You must accept us today.

MAMA OBY: Hmm? Okay. Mike, wait for me. I must accept you today. Oby, so, you have forgiven the community. (smiles). That's beautiful. Wait for me. (Goes inside the kitchen).

MIKE: Oby, please let me go. I'll wait for you till your mum accepts my love for you. I just don't like you having issues everyday with her because of me. Just know that I love you and I will do anything to proof that to your mum.

MAMA OBY COMES OUT FROM THE KITCHEN WITH A HUNTER'S GUN.

OBY: Mama, what are you doing with papa's gun? (She points the gun at them)

MAMA OBY: I thought you want me to accept this son of a murderer into my home? (Oby fearfully nods). Before I will accept him, he has to go and meet your father and beg for forgiveness on behalf of his father. (Mike becomes afraid).

OBY: (Frightens). Mama please don't do... (Mama Oby cuts in sharply by gunning Mike down). Ma... (Clears her eyes twice) Mike! (Shakes him twice) . Mama. (Shouts). Mama you have killed him. (Starts crying) .

MAMA OBY: You are joining him.

OBY: Mama please don't do this to me. Please. I am your daughter. Your flesh and blood.

MAMA OBY: No Oby. You ceased to be my daughter the moment you forgave his father and this community for killing your innocent father. They made me a widow in my early twenties. They took away my rights as a member of this community. I was treated and abused like a slave. You grew up to witness some of the abuses. And simply because they came two years ago to apologise for their wrongs, you decided to fall in love with the son of the man who brought great pains and sorrows to your household. Out of all the men in this community, Mike was the only person for you. (Laughs).
You are a shame Oby.

OBY: Mama please. Please.

MAMA OBY: You want me to forgive you? (Oby nods). Your father has to forgive you first. (Guns her down. Walks up to them and spits on them. About to enter the kitchen, turns and looks at them). You must return and tell me what my husband said so that I will know how to handle the two of you. (Looks at them). Looks like they are dead. What have I done? (Walks up to them). I just killed my daughter. (Screams and starts laughing). I killed them. They killed my love. He was innocent. And she betrayed me. Now I have killed them. Igwe, come and kill me, I am also a murderer.
(Starts laughing).
