Saturday's EPL Roundup: Man City, Liverpool & Chelsea Win As Huddersfield Stop Everton
9/01/2018
Here's the roundup of today's English Premier League games.
Manchester City 2 - 1 Newcastle United

Kyle Walker‘s goal of the season candidate lifted Manchester City past Newcastle United on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium.

The match was 1-1 at the break after DeAndre Yedlin‘s first English Premier League goal answered Raheem Sterling‘s opener.

By the final stanza, the match very much looked like Newcastle was happy to limit its goal differential damage and City was happy with the win.

Leicester City 1 - 2 Liverpool

Liverpool beat Leicester City 2-1 at the King Power Stadium but the visitors were second-best for most of the game.

First half goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino had the Reds flying but Leicester created numerous chances and stopped Jurgen Klopp‘s Liverpool from playing their normal game.

The Foxes were then handed a gift as Alisson made a huge mistake and Rachid Ghezzal pulled a goal back but Claude Puel‘s side couldn’t find an equaliser.

Still, it’s four wins from four for the Reds heading into the international break and Klopp will be more than satisfied with that return.

Chelsea 2 - 0 AFC Bournemouth

Chelsea beat Bournemouth 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, with Maurizio Sarri‘s side laboring to victory.

Pedro and Eden Hazard scored in the second half against a spirited Bournemouth side, as Chelsea huffed and puffed but looked sluggish throughout.

With the win Chelsea remain perfect with 12 points from 12 heading into the international break, while Bournemouth stay on seven points.

Brighton & Hove Albion 2 - 2 Fulham

Glenn Murray converted a late penalty kick to complete his brace as Brighton and Hove Albion came back to draw Fulham 2-2 at the Amex Stadium.

Andre Schurrle and Aleksandar Mitrovic had put the Cottagers ahead, but the latter went to the doghouse by conceding an unthreatened late penalty.

Crystal Palace 0 - 2 Southampton

Southampton beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park with Mark Hughes‘ men off and running for the new season.

Danny Ings and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored Saints’ goals but that only told half the story as Charlie Austin‘s penalty kick was saved and Christian Benteke spurned several glorious chances as Alex McCarthy made several stunning saves.

The win move Saints on to four points for the season, while Palace, who missed the injured Wilfried Zaha badly, have three after three-straight defeats.

Everton 1 - 1 Huddersfield Town

Everton has a win and three draws, but won’t admire the point earned against visiting Huddersfield Town at Goodison Park in a 1-1 draw.

Philip Billing scored for Huddersfield Town, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin nabbed Everton’s marker.

West Ham United 0 - 1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Adama Traore’s stoppage time winner condemned West Ham United to a fourth-straight loss and sent Wolves into the top half after a 1-0 win at the London Stadium.

Goalkeeper Rui Patricio was fantastic for Wolves in the win.
