There had been 7,912 goals scored when this season's group stage kicked off, with a further 45 racked up on matchday one, and 23 more added to the total on the Tuesday of matchday two.
The 20th goal of Wednesday, therefore – Griezmann putting Atletico 2-1 up 67 minutes in against Club Brugge – was a landmark effort.
