Barcelona finally returned to winning ways in La Liga, recording a big win against the in-form Sevilla, but the three points came at a massive price as Lionel Messi left the match with an injury in the first half. But even in limited time the Argentine still scored and added an assist, as did Luis Suarez, with Ivan Rakitić and Philippe Coutinho also scoring for the Catalans. Pablo Sarabia and Luis Muriel scored for the visitors.
Real Madrid 1 - 2 Levante
Real Madrid's miserable run of results continued as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Levante, their third successive loss in all competitions which piles more pressure on coach Julen Lopetegui.
Jose Luis Morales put Levante ahead in the seventh minute after a defensive slip from Raphael Varane while Roger Marti doubled the lead in the 13th from the penalty spot after a handball by Varane, with the spot-kick awarded after consultation with the video assistant referee (VAR).
Marcelo finally snapped their long spell without a goal by smashing into the net midway through the second half, scoring the club's first goal in 482 minutes, but despite creating more chances which saw Karim Benzema hit the woodwork and Mariano having a goal ruled out, Real could not find an equaliser.
Real are fifth in the La Liga standings, three points behind leaders Alaves, while Levante are seventh.
Villarreal 1 - 1 Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid missed the opportunity to go top of LaLiga as Mario Gaspar's strike secured a 1-1 draw for Villarreal at the Estadio de la Ceramica thanks to goals from Filipe Luis and Mario Gaspar.
Valencia CF 1 - 1 Leganes
Gerard Gumbau and Jose Luis Gaya also scored as Valencia draw 1-1 with Leganes.
