Saturday's Serie A Roundup: Cristiano Ronaldo Makes History At Juve; Napoli Close Gap On League Leaders
10/20/2018
Here's the roundup of today's Italian Serie A fixtures...
Juventus 1 - 1 Genoa

Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score 400 goals in Europe's top five leagues as Juventus dropped points for the first time this season.

Ronaldo's fifth Serie A goal for Juve was added to his 84 English Premier League strikes for Manchester United and 311 in La Liga for Real Madrid.

He tapped in after Joao Cancelo's shot was blocked - having earlier hit the post with a header. But Daniel Bessa equalised with a header from Christian Kouame's cross.

Juventus defenders switched off for the goal, expecting the ball to drop for a corner - but Kouame kept it in and found an unmarked Bessa.

The hosts dominated most of the game, but of their 21 shots, only three were on target - all from Ronaldo, who had 11 efforts in total, in the first half.

Krzysztof Piatek's run of scoring in every game for Genoa since his summer move from Cracovia came to an end.

The 23-year-old Poland striker had scored 13 goals in his first eight games.

Ronaldo's landmark puts him 10 goals above the second top scorer in Europe's main leagues, Lionel Messi - who scored his 390th La Liga goal for Barcelona in their 4-2 win against Sevilla.

And draw keeps Juve top of the Serie A table, while Genoa stay 10th.

Udinese 0 - 3 Napoli

Napoli closed the gap on Serie A leaders Juventus to four points with a 3-0 win at Udinese.

The visitors got off to the perfect start, capitalising on an early spell of dominance with a superb curling strike from Fabian Ruiz just 14 minutes in.

Despite that early setback, Udinese responded well and were much the better side for the rest of the first half, testing Orestis Karnezis in the Napoli goal on a handful of occasions.

The second half started in the same vein, with Carlo Ancelotti's men looking a little off the pace, especially in the middle of the park.

However, a late penalty from Dries Mertens and a deflected strike from Marko Rog confirmed the victory which had previously been in some doubt.

Udinese stay fifteen on eight points with the defeat.

Roma 0 - 2 SPAL

Targeting a fourth-straight league win Roma got more than they bargained for at home to SPAL as the visiting ran out 2-0 winners.

SPAL went ahead with a slickly-converted Andrea Petagna spot-kick on 38 minutes.

A flashing header from Kevin Bonifazi finished off a corner on 56 minutes to make it 2-0 to the visitors for their fourth win in nine matches, losing their other five.
