Posted by Former Arsenal striker and Denmark international Nicklas Bendtner was convicted of assaulting a taxi driver and sentenced to 50 days in jail on Friday by a city court in Copenhagen, but walked free from the courtroom pending an appeal hearing.
The 30-year-old striker, who plays for Norwegian club side Rosenborg, has appealed against the sentence, his lawyer said, and he was released until the hearing in a higher court.
Bendtner admitted to hitting the taxi driver in the face but said it was because he felt threatened when the driver threw a bottle or a can towards him and his girlfriend when they left without paying.
Bendtner, who was left out of the Denmark side that reached the knock-out stages of the World Cup in Russia this year, has 81 games and 30 goals for the national team, scoring 30 goals in the process but has not played a game for the national team since a draw against Chile in March.
He made 171 appearances and scored 45 times for Arsenal between 2005 and 2014, during which time he had loan spells at Birmingham City, Sunderland and Juventus.
Bendtner left the Emirates Stadium for German club Wolfsburg in 2014 and has since played for Nottingham Forest before joining his current club Rosenborg.
