Posted by Danny Welbeck has been taken to hospital with Arsenal fearing a serious injury lay-off.
The Arsenal striker was taken for X-rays after suffering the leg injury during the Europa League draw with Sporting Lisbon.
Welbeck went up for a header with Bruno Gaspar during the first half and landed awkwardly before immediately signalling for treatment.
Medical staff rushed onto the pitch and administered gas and air to the striker as he was consoled by Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Sporting captain and his former Manchester United teammate Nani.
Arsenal confirmed Welbeck had suffered a serious ankle injury and had gone to hospital for tests. Boss Unai Emery said:
If the injury is as serious as feared then he would face a race against time to return before the end of the season.
The striker has had a nightmare time with injuries since his move to the Emirates from Manchester United.
He missed around eight months of action and Euro 2016 after picking up a knee injury at the end of the 2015-16 season.
