Arsenal’s tough schedule continues as they travel to Old Trafford on Wednesday, looking to build on the great 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur with another terrific second half as well as a three-game winning streak across competitions – where they also beat Bournemouth and Vorskla.
Gunners still sit eight points behind Man City at the top of the table but they’ve now made the top 4 cut and we’ll surely see them very motivated to build on the success, where beating Man United comes off as an essential task for Unai Emery and his men. They’ve had no troubles playing on the road and now promise a great challenge in Manchester.
Red Devils have been more unpredictable and the 2-2 draw at Southampton, where they conceded two very early goals, proves to the points. They’ve earned just one win in last four games again and two points in three league outings have Jose Mourinho in the hot seat whether he likes to admit it or no, despite seeing his men regularly scoring goals.
TEAM NEWS:
Manchester United - Alexis Sanchez is out until the new year with a thigh injury, while Victor Lindelof will be out until close to Christmas with his own thigh problem. Ashley Young is suspended but Chris Smalling (foot) and Eric Bailly (back) will face late fitness tests. Marcus Rashford was taken off against Southampton but Jose Mourinho expects to have him available to face Arsenal. Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia are rated less likely to feature, however, with both suffering knocks. It does leave United light across the defence.
Arsenal - After changing the game against Tottenham with his second-half introduction, Alexandre Lacazette could start against Manchester United. Aaron Ramsey was also introduced at half-time and claimed two assists and both men could therefore start. Nacho Monreal is out injured while Granit Xhaka is suspended – meaning a possible return for Matteo Guendouzi – but Mesut Ozil and Laurent Koscielny could be available. The latter is light on match fitness after his lengthy absence, while the German playmaker suffered a back spasm. Danny Welbeck is facing a long spell on the sidelines.
TEAM FORM:
Man United are without a win in their last three Premier League games, with only the stoppage-time victory against Young Boys in the Champions League - courtesy of Marouane Fellaini’s late winner – to their credit in that time. They lost 3-1 to Manchester City prior to the international break and since have drawn 0-0 at home to Crystal Palace and 2-2 away to Southampton – Romelu Lukaku and Ander Herrera earning a point after United found themselves 2-0 down early on.
Arsenal have won their last three matches in a row having drawn three in a row prior to that. All three wins have come since the international break, with an own goal and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s second-half strike earning a 2-1 win at Bournemouth before a much-changed team won 3-0 at Vorskla in the Europa League. Against Spurs last time out, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice and Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torreira secured a 4-2 home win.
POSSIBLE LINEUPS:
Man United (4-3-3): David De Gea; Diogo Dalot, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo; Marouane Fellaini, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba; Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial.
Arsenal (4-2-3-1): Bernd Leno; Hector Bellerin, Shkodran Mustafi, Rob Holding, Sead Kolasinac; Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira; Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil; Alexandre Lacazette.
KEY STATS:
Manchester United 1-2 Arsenal — This is going to be somehow tough for the Gunners but I am sure we are going to snatch all three points in Manchester tonight.
