Posted by Paris Saint-Germain’s home league game against Montpellier on Saturday has been postponed due to the violent protests that have swept through France, initially against a rise in fuel tax.
Because of continued unrest affecting Paris, rocked by rioting over the last few weekends, a decision has been taken to call the game off.
French football authorities say police fear they will not have enough forces available to guarantee security amid protests in Paris city centre even though the French government has backed down on some its planned tax increases.
The postponement means PSG will have a free weekend ahead of their vital Champions League clash with Red Star Belgrade in Serbia.
The ‘gilets jaunes’ (yellow vests) protests have now grown to reflect more widespread anger at the government’s policy and social instability and more are planned for next weekend.Lyon’s match at Toulouse on Saturday has also been postponed.
