Alex Oliveira was facing Gunnar Nelson at UFC 231 in Toronto, Canada, when he was caught with a powerful elbow to the face in round two.
The impact opened up the Brazilian mixed martial artist's head, which quickly left his face, arms and chest covered in blood.
After hitting Oliveira with a few more elbows while on top of him, Nelson capitalised on the cut by getting behind his opponent and applying a rear-naked choke hold.

The 'Cowboy' tapped out within seconds as blood dripped onto the arms of Nelson and down onto the floor of the Octagon.
Video of the fight shows the grisly moment Oliveira appears to have blood almost squeezed out of him by Nelson, who recorded his eighth UFC win in the process.
However, there was positive news on the Brazilian's condition after the fight when his head coach, Andre Tadeu, confirmed he was 'fine' in a Facebook post.
