Cesc Fabregas appeared to begin saying farewell to the Chelsea supporters inside Stamford Bridge at the conclusion of his side's 0-0 draw with Southampton.
The Spaniard lingered after the full time whistle and made a point of showing his appreciation to the crowd. Fabregas is likely to feature against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup game on Saturday, where he may play for the Blues for the final time.
One Wednesday night, he placed on hand on his chest and waved to those in the stands with the other in an apparently meaningful goodbye.
He gesture was also due to the fact that he has reached a career landmark, playing 500 games in English football.
After the game Fabregas wrote on Twitter:
His reaction to the milestone and pledge to see fans on Saturday may be seen as a hint that it will be his bow for the club.
The 31-year-old has been heavily linked with an imminent move to Thierry Henry's Monaco side in Ligue 1.
