In the photo of the whole squad it is Luka Modric who replaces the Portuguese, moving from his usual front row seat to stand by the side of coach Julen Lopetegui, while Gareth Bale keeps his place on the other.
And the most curious detail of the picture is that Sergio Ramos who is wearing the captain's armband. It is the first time he has worn the armband in the club's picture.
Also the 2018/19 season squad photo contains one shock inclusion.
Vinicius Junior,who started playing for the Spanish club this summer after his initial £36m (N17bn) switch from Brazilian side Flamengo in May 2017, was included in the first team squad photo.
The teenager also posed alongside the likes of Thibaut Courtois and Mariano Diaz in a snap of the club’s new signings
Brazilian youngster's 2017 deal meant he would move to Los Blancos once he reached 18-years-old. Since moving to Spain, Vinicius has had to settle for a place in Real Madrid’s Castilla squad. Many Real Madrid supporters have urged Julen Lopetegui to promote the player to the senior squad following a string of impressive performances. Their wish took a step closer towards being granted when he was surprisingly included squad photo.
