Eight wins out of eight have Juve cruising along as they welcome Genoa at this home in Serie A game today.
Juventus vs Genoa
Italian Serie A.
Date: Saturday 20 October 2018
Kick-Off: 17:00 - Nigerian Time
Venue: Allianz Stadium (Turin)
Juventus may have one eye on next week’s UEFA Champions League clash with Manchester United, and Paulo Dybala is unlikely to be risked as a result, but they still boast a formidable attacking unit.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s signing has added to a front line that already boasted Mario Mandzukic, while Federico Bernadeschi and Juan Cuadrado are competing to replace Dybala.

If one includes the Champions League, Juventus have won all ten of their games across all competitions this season. No other team in any of Europe’s “Big 5” leagues have achieved that feat, and that fact alone arguably makes Massimiliano Allegri’s side one of the strongest teams in Europe so far this term.

Furthermore, Juventus have a perfect record as of late against Genoa – especially when it comes to playing against the Grifone at home. Their last five games in Turin have earned them five straight wins all without conceding, and they will hope to make it a sixth straight win ahead of their European match in a few days’ time next week.

For Genoa, while it would be unfair to call them a one-man team, they have certainly relied on the goals of Krzysztof Piatek this season.

The Pole has scored 13 of their 16 goals. And they will be heavily relying on their Polish striker yet again, but will face a difficult task against the experienced centre-half pairing of Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini.

Impressively, Krzysztof Piatek ranks ahead of big scoring names like Cristiano Ronaldo as well as experienced Serie A hitmen like Edin Dzeko, Mauro Icardi, Gonzalo Higuain, and Ciro Immobile.

However, Genoa now have a new coach – with Ivan Juric coming back into the fold despite Davide Ballardini’s strong start and Juventus have won all but one of their last 14 home games in the league.

TEAM NEWS:

Juventus are sweating on the fitness of Paulo Dybala after the Argentinean forward limped out of his country’s match with Brazil in Saudi Arabia. With Manchester United up next, it seems unlikely he will be risked. That could give Juan Cuadrado an opportunity to step back into the starting XI, while Federico Bernardeschi is another option. Cristiano Ronaldo missed Portugal’s two matches, but has been back in training with Juventus as he looks to focus on on-pitch matters in the wake of the resurfaced rape allegations against him – which he has strenuously denied.

Lisandro Lopez and Esteban Rolon remain sidelined but Genoa have no new injury concerns as they prepare for the trip to Turin. Gianluca Lapadula was back on the bench last time out. Goran Pandev was replaced by Iuri Medeiros and Romulo made way for Pedro Pereira, but both could return after a 3-1 defeat in which all the goals were scored in the first half-hour. Andrea Favilli came off the bench at half-time in that game, but he is ineligible to face his parent club.

TEAM FORM:

Juventus have won all ten games they have played so far this season, while only Napoli have even scored against them in their last ten matches. After coming from behind to beat last season’s runners-up 3-1 in that match – Mario Mandzukic scoring twice and Leonardo Bonucci adding a third after Mario Rui’s red card – Napoli have beaten Young Boys in the Champions League and Udinese in Serie A. Paulo Dybala hit a hat-trick to defeat the former 3-0, while Rodrigo Betancur and Cristiano Ronaldo in a 2-0 win against the latter.

Genoa have won four and lost two of their last six matches, but one of those defeats came in their most recent match before the international break against Parma. They actually led 1-0 through Krzysztof Piatek’s 13th goal of the season, but Parma hit back with three goals before the break to win 3-1. That followed back-to-back wins against Chievo at home – Goran Pandev and Piatek scoring in a 2-0 win - and away to Frosinone, where Piatek’s double secured a 2-1 victory.

POSSIBLE LINEUPS:

Juventus(4-3-3): Wojciech Szczesny; Joao Cancelo, Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Rodrigo Betancur, Miralem Pjanic, Blaise Matuidi; Juan Cuadrado, Mario Mandzukic, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Genoa (3-4-3): Ionu Radu; Davide Biraschi, Nicolas Spolli, Domenico Criscito; Romulo, Sandro, Goran Pandev, Darko Lazovic; Christian Kouame, Daniel Bessa, Krzysztof Piatek.

KEY STATS:
  • Juventus have won their last five home matches against Genoa and are unbeaten in four matches home and away since Genoa won 3-1 in November 2016.
  • Three of those matches were played last season, as Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain scored in a 2-0 win in the Coppa Italia, while Juventus won the league games 4-2 away and 1-0 at home.
  • Juventus have kept a clean sheet in their last 6 home matches against Genoa in all competitions.
  • The Bianconeri have won their last 6 home matches against Genoa in all competitions.
  • Juventus have won 11 of their last 13 meetings with Genoa at home dating back to Serie B in 2006/2007
PREDICTION:

Juve 3-1 Genoa —  Juventus have won ten from ten so far this season thanks to an exciting forward-line, a balanced midfield and an experienced defence that has kept five clean sheets in the last six matches. They have not fired blanks against Genoa at home since January 1991 and it’s hard to see them slipping up here. Piatek, of course, will hope to continue his hot streak. But he will be up against one of the strongest defenses in Europe, and it will be interesting to see how he will perform this evening.

Well, the Bianconeri will are winning this game, but the question is, will they be able to keep a clean sheet?
