Reigning three-time Champions League winners Real Madrid have officially come out in opposition to La Liga's plan to stage matches in the United States.
News broke on Wednesday afternoon that La Liga giants Real Madrid have announced their official opposition to the movement to host games overseas in America.
The saga has been going on for some months now, but Madrid are one of the first clubs to officially announced their stance.
The proposal made by La Liga is part of a 15-year deal with a media organization called Relevant, with the assumed goal of increasing exposure to the American audience.
They officially requested permission from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for permission to hold a La Liga match between Barcelona and Girona in Miami on January 26, 2019.
But the RFEF is not the only ones they would need on board, as they would also need the approval of UEFA, the US Soccer Federation and Concacaf.
RFEF President Luis Rubiales has already publically spoken out against the game.
The AFE, or the Spanish Players Union, has also declared their opposition to the proposal. The game in question would be a 'home' match for Girona, that would take place at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium.
Now though, the movement faces another setback. Real Madrid have issued a statement in opposition to the proposal. They specified:

"We would like to declare that Real Madrid were never informed that La Liga had requested to play the game nor of the intention to make the request, and we were never asked our opinion on it.
"Nor, obviously, did La Liga obtain Real Madrid's agreement, despite the fact that this game affects a competition in which we participate." Meanwhile, La Liga President Javier Tebas is insistent on the idea.
"Teams have also played at other stadiums while their grounds are being renovated or in order to generate more revenue. If we really believe in this sporting puritanism then we would need to make many changes in football."
